Course Summary
This is an interactive course with field trips to historical, cultural and environmental places. It will help teachers meet the challenge of locating, collecting and using historical and community resources.
The knowledge and use of these materials by teachers can help students discover local history and develop critical-thinking skills by evaluating and analyzing, organizing, and reporting on what they have found.
Teachers will receive a variety of materials including a 100-page teachers guide to the use of local history resources.
The course includes presentations, exploration and sampling of Long Island's many (often overlooked) archival, natural, historical and cultural resources. This course will meet state guidelines for elementary and secondary teachers.
Materials and admissions fee: $25.00 due at first class
