Port Jefferson is NewEngland's gateway to Brookhaven and Long Island

The Port Jefferson Bridgeport Ferry, shown in this 2004 aerial photograph is a vital link between Long Island and New England. Between 1655 when the Town of Brookhaven was founded with a settlement at Setauket and 1664 when the Duke of York claimed and made Long Island a part of New York, it had belonged to colonies in New England, first New Haven and then Hartford.
